We’re passionate about celebrating our beautiful region and curating moments of joy. Whether you're visiting from Canberra or beyond, we love sharing our favourite local spots that pair perfectly with a visit to our chocolate studio in Murrumbateman.
This month, while the evenings are still chilly, we’re highlighting a hidden gem just down the road. The stunning 1882 in Hall, a village steeped in charm and nestled right on the outskirts of Canberra.
Dine by the Fire in Historic Hall
1882 brings together the best of the Canberra region; local wine, seasonal produce, and a beautifully restored setting that feels both modern and cosy. It's named for the year Hall was established, and this thoughtfully renovated space breathes new life into a beloved local landmark.
1882 is the type of place place you’ll want to return to again and again. I’ve enjoyed catch ups with girlfriends and team dinners.
My husband and I recently enjoyed a wonderful Friday evening there dining by the fireplace with a glass of local Clonakilla Shiraz and a delicious three-course meal. Scallops to start, lamb ragu for mains, and a perfectly set crème brûlée to finish. The food is of great quality, the proportions are balanced and satisfying, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Locals in the know return for good reason!

Chef Davis Chang and team are friendly, engaging and always deliver an outstanding experience. You’ll always be warmly welcomed, and the menu is definitely worth returning for. From woodfired pizza to their incredible G&T fish, to their thoughtfully considers socials, there is something for everyone.
Whether it’s a date night or a catch-up with friends, 1882 Hall feels like a warm hug in the form of a restaurant.
Our top tip:
Check out their program of wine dinners, held monthly, with each dinner showcasing a local Canberra district winery.
