Murrumbateman Chocolate Co is committed to creating exceptional artisan chocolate while ensuring that our operations reflect the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility. Our sustainability plan is guided by our brand pillars of Quality, Sustainability, Community, and Teamwork. We recognise that our choices, from cocoa sourcing to packaging, can positively influence people, planet, and industry.

Ethical Cocoa Sourcing

We source couverture from partners aligned with internationally recognised certifications such as Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade, and B Corp. These certifications ensure:

  • Cocoa is grown with respect for biodiversity and reduced environmental impact.

  • Farmers are paid fairly, supporting livelihoods and strengthening rural communities.

  • Supply chains are transparent, accountable, and committed to long-term sustainability.

Additionally, we focus on sourcing ingredients locally wherever possible. We source fruit and nuts locally, including from farms in Wallaroo and Batlow, and the eggs we use are from our own happy hens.

Sustainable Packaging

All Murrumbateman Chocolate Co packaging is 100% Australian made, reflecting our commitment to supporting local industry and reducing transport miles. We exclusively use biodegradable and compostable materials, including recyclable cardboard and compostable cellophane, eliminating single-use plastics from our operations. This ensures that every element of our packaging lifecycle supports a circular economy and reduces waste.

We are committed to reducing waste and conserving resources as much as possible, especially given our rural location. We have integrated numerous sustainable practices into our daily operations to minimize our environmental impact.


Renewable-powered facility

Our entire chocolate studio, retail store, warehouse and office is powered by self-generating solar. As our chocolate machines play a large part in our production process, this environmental saving is crucial.


Rainwater

Our entire property is serviced by rainwater tanks. We are pro-active at storing and conserving our precious water resources! We also use an innovative recycled pump system for watering our grounds.
