Discover the Magic of Murrumbateman: A Twilight Horseback Adventure and Sweet Indulgence
In our first post for our new neighbourhood series, I'm excited to share a truly unforgettable experience I had right here in the Canberra region. I recently enjoyed a stormy Summer evening, embarking on a twilight horseback ride through the Picaree Hill conservation area with Burnelee Excursions On Horeseback.
Not only was this ride the perfect way to reconnect with my passion for horseriding, but it also gave me a whole new perspective on the beauty of our local surroundings. And let me tell you, Murrumbateman is an ideal destination for visitors looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and beauty of the great outdoors.
A Journey Through Pristine Bushland
Burnelee offers a variety of ride options for all levels. I joined their twilight bush trail ride, which takes you through the Picaree Hill Conservation Area. This two-hour ride immerses you in the serene bushland, allowing you to truly disconnect from daily life.
When you arrive at Burnelee, the peacefulness of the surroundings immediately draws you in. As you make your way past the horse yards towards the large, welcoming tack shed, you'll notice the calming atmosphere that makes this place so special. The team at Burnelee is friendly and knowledgeable, and they immediately put us at ease with their thorough safety checks and introductions to the horses.
I was paired with Jamison, a gorgeous old Clydesdale cross, who turned out to be not only the tallest but also the boss of the herd. The ride began with a quick gear and safety check, followed by a brief introduction to our guides and the horses. As the boss of the herd, Jamison had the privilege of staying up the front of the pack, and I had the honor of riding him – something I was more than happy to do!
An Evening of Adventure and Beauty
As we began our ride, the bush came alive around us. The sounds of birds, bees, and insects filled the air, and the sky began to shift with the impending storm. The distant rumble of thunder hinted at the weather rolling in, and while some might have been concerned, I felt a thrill knowing we were about to experience something truly magical. The air grew cooler as the storm clouds gathered, and the guides kept a close eye on the weather, ensuring we were all comfortable to continue the ride.
The rain began to fall, and it was absolutely refreshing. There's something truly special about the scent of the bush after rain. The combination of the stormy sky, the gentle rain, and the beauty of the bush made for a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
The Stunning Views and Warmth of Murrumbateman
Along the way, we were treated to breathtaking views, including a stop at a picturesque lookout. As we paused to take in the scenery, we were rewarded with a double rainbow stretching across the ranges – a perfect moment to capture the beauty of Murrumbateman.
